What are Stretch Marks?
Stretch marks are lines or grooves that can appear on skin that has been stretched excessively as a result of growth, pregnancy, or weight gain. Prolonged use of topical or oral corticosteroids can also cause stretch marks. Fortunately, there are laser remedies for stretch marks that can help eliminate them.
In definition, these are skin stretching injuries. They usually occur during growth (in the adolescent stage), weight changes, or when there is a pregnancy that causes great stretching of the skin.
They appear as parallel lines that in early stages are reddish, thin and shiny. Over time, these become whitish and opaque and can sink in the form of grooves. They generally do not cause pain or itching.
They tend to be more common in women, although some men may suffer from them; mainly during growth (adolescence), sudden weight changes or from genetic factors. In women, the factors are usually even greater, as they can occur due to the increase in natural fat in adolescence, due to weight change, genetics or pregnancies.
It usually appears in areas where the skin tends to stretch more widely, such as the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs and breasts.
What solutions are available?
The elasticity of the skin is largely conditioned by genetic issues, so sometimes the appearance of stretch marks is inevitable. But we can avoid triggers such as abrupt weight changes. There are also other methods such as laser for stretch marks.
It is important to detect them in early stages to be able to offer more effective treatment since in late stages it is more difficult to eliminate them. Some of the treatments with the best results are fractional CO2 laser (which is a laser for stretch marks); intense pulsed light (IPL)., micropunctures and radio frequency.
